Portraits...

Well, after a 15 hour day yesterday and a 330 km round -trip drive down to Fort Mcleod, I am pretty knackered. But only two more days to go. Shawn was a great guy and I am happy one of the smaller towns with such a history won the bid for the new college. I wish I had more time to see inside the fort, but I guess that will have to wait for another time. The picture below of Wendy and Neil was truly a difficult situation, to hear what they have been through really is emotional. I managed to get five pictures off before Wendy started crying and they said they had enough. This +15 was only ten feet away from the hearing, so I figured I would get the picture before they changed their minds, and thought it was a fairly interesting background, save for the sign behind his head. Random Stuff From Past Few Days

Well here are a few random photos from over the past few days. More feature-ish kind of stuff that I have had a chance to do.

Stamps Practice

Well I was off to Mcmahon stadium yesterday to shoot Stamps practice, which is always interesting. The stuff these guys come up with when they are sitting on the sidelines is halarious, from constant jokes to girls to the best spot to eat the most for the least amount of money. Here are a few of the guys practicing their new touchdown celebration, a Jamaican Bob-sled parody, on the sidelines at Sunday's practice. Time's Winding Down

Well as August 31st steadily approaches, my summer at the Herald seems to be coming to an end. I am sure I will miss it when I am gone, but am looking to what lies ahead.

Well they didn't run any of the photos from last week 's peace march, but I saw in opinions/editorial section today that someone had made a fuss about how people were dancing on soldiers graves and flying the hezbollah flag. I didn't see any of that happening, nor did the people who responded to the letter in the opinions section, but it was interesting to read, and interesting to talk to some of the guys who showed up with the "Don't listen to the dirty stinkin hippy" signs. Anyways, I digress. A couple more shots from my amazingly interesting Friday night at the GlobalFest fireworks, and my future bride, Polly Pockets. Calgary GT's

The past few days have been a little slower than usual, which has been fun and allowed me to spend a bit more time on assignments. Here are a few photos from the past couple days, one of which was a high-tech scavenger hunt I got to play in, which was a heck of a lot of fun. It's amazing what lengths some of the companies in Calgary are going to to keep their employees happy. Oil and Gas and Technology jobs seem to be where it's at if it means Thursday's afternoons are full of scavenger hunts and Heinekens.Calgary, AB-20060816-.From left, General Manager Andrea Unger and Owners John Landry and Witold Twardowski are resurrecting Victoria's Restaurant, which is set to open August 24th. Crypt Lake

Here are some photos of the hike I went on in Waterton, just a few days after my previous hike there. I have been trying to find the time to make this into a soundslide, but until then I figured it was about time I updated my ole' blog. Here they are:

Nice Hike Part 2

Here are the rest of the shots from our hike at Waterton last week. I went yesterday but haven't editing through the photos yet, and I just got my Tri-X back from the lab along with scans from last Sunday's hike. It's such a nice change of pace to shoot on a rangefinder and in B+W, this has been my only roll all summer and I am going to start doing it way more often.

ZAP

This was a lot of fun to take. It was one of those feature shots you really enjoy working at and was fairly exciting to get. Both Tom and myself were having such a great time just watching the storm, and my umbrella would have a big hum and hiss with electricity with every strike. It was a good way to cap off a day of work, even if I did end up getting fairly soaked. Tuesday's Mix

Well some more photos from Tuesday's day. Some lesuirely sporting activities, and a shooting in a busy part of N.W. Calgary. After checking my webstats, it looks like the streaker picture from the other day was a hit with people who had googled it. Today's stuff is not as exciting, the shooting happened on the other side of town from where I was, so I was a bit too late to get anything good. Now I am off to bed, I just got soaked shooting some feature photos of the crazy lightning storm we had here tonight, so I will put some photos of that up tomorrow. Mondays

Well Monday was another day of variety, starting off with feature hunting at Heritage Park for Heritage Day, and ending with chuckwagon racing out in Strathmore, about 50 km outside of Calgary. I had a lot of fun looking for features at Heritage Park, although they will never see the light of day in the paper. The chuckwagon racing was interesting, seeing how easy it is for a horse to trip and basically die right on the spot was something I hadn't seen yet. Nice Hike

Well it's ten past twelve so I figure it's a new day and time for a new post. The latest Stampeders stuff is also available on my Sportsshooter site. I just finished filing some pictures from the chuckwagon races in Strathmore, where I witnessed one horse die about 20 feet away from me on the track, which does nothing but solidify my lack of understanding for the attraction to chuckwagon racing. Along with most rodeo events, it seems like a fairly brutal way to treat animals. Anyways, I am off that rant and on to a few photos from the 19K hike I went on with Beavis and Dustin yesterday in Waterton National Park, I believe we climbed to about 2650 meters. I finished off a roll of Tri-X on the rangefinder as well, so these are the few I shot on digital. Chucks pics tomorrow, have a good night.Beavis considers taking the plunge into the frigid glacier-fed Alderson lake. (he did)

STAMPS ACTION

Well, I scored another weekend off, so Saturday I was off to the Stamps game to shoot it along with Herald Photogs Ted Jacob and Grant Black. Man, it was a great game. The crowd was split about 50/50 between Roughrider and Stampeder fans, and the two teams were out to play. The past few games I have shot have been fairly dull, but this one was action packed with great shots to be had on almost every play. Along with that, I have never encountered a streaker while shooting any sports event, so we had a bit of a laugh and I managed to snap a few without his bits in the frame, thank god. On my Sunday day off I went for an amazing hike in Waterton National Park, I will post some photos tomorrow of my favourite place in Alberta.Calgary, AB-20060805-.Calgary Stampeder's Wide Reciever Ken-Yon Rambo (85) loses the ball and his helmet for a fumble as he is tackled by Saskatchewan RoughRiders Almondo Curry (26) in Saturday night's 23-7 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders at McMahon Stadium.
